A very well written account of the history of this publishing icon. Most enjoyable.

I was quickly drawn in to the story of the founding Lane brothers, from their early Bristol years to war to their infamous bathroom meetings. Covering decades of time and Penguin logos, Stuart's access to the never-before-seen Lane family archives from Melbourne, Australia was cleverly used and clearly referenced. This was a quick read but I enjoyed every minute of it. Rosales Adams has written a warm and loving story with two chart who fit the story perfectly. It covers a sad marriage with tragic events but highlights the strength of a young woman who broke away from a destructive situation. She travels West to meet a man who shows her a life, love and support that she had never known. This is a good read.

One of the best stories, with plenty of twists that I haven't seen in most stories. The best epilogue. Love when you get a glimpse into their lives later in life and the possibility for future storylines increase. One of my new favorite authors. Thanks for a beautiful story.

On the surface, this a beautiful, oversized book which is exactly as advertised-- an encyclopedic listing of outlaw motorcycle clubs worldwide. Each club has a little listing containing SOME information. Some have a box containing more info-- date, place of origin, locations, club colors (actual colors-- white, blue gold,etc.) and description of the club patch... and there SOME very nice photographs of SOME patches. Which brings me to my major beef-- NOT ENOUGH! It would have been very nice if at least most of the clubs had their patches pictured. Considering how many clubs have websites and E-mail addresses, this does'nt seem to be too big an expectation... What IS here is very nice---some beautiful photography and some essays by clubbers.. BUT---another beef, there are some inaccuracies and incompletes (nit picking? perhaps.) 1)FILTHY FEW is sub group within the Hells Angels MC ONLY, and a club that stole the name in New Zealand. It is NOT a "common idiom throughout the motorcycle culture". 2)The NUGGETS MC has not flown the described patch of "a beer drinking rabbit on a motorcycle" since it's very early days. Since the late 60's, they've flown their current patch--- a gold nugget with a motorcycle inside. They rode full dressers back then and morphed into choppers--an interesting fact not mentioned. 3)The Mongrel Mob of NZ should not have been included--- they wear cuts with patches but they DON'T RIDE. 4)The Gypsy Jokers is listed as a"classic club" and it is--- their patch is listed as a grinning skull... gee whiz, that's the Australian club who just appropriated the name and made up their own patch. The Aussies have since made a connection to the originals and adopted the real top and bottom rockers but kept the skull center patch. The REAL Gypsy Joker patch was and is a walking jester--- that's a real boner on the author's part. An annoying incomplete--"Curious about that demonic critter on the Pagan's patch?" sez the back cover and the blurb on Amazon--- Yeah, it's the norse fire demon Surtur or dark Surt, BUT they DON"t say that it's a direct lift from a 1963 issue of Marvel comic's JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY in a TALES OF ASGARD story drawn by one of the greatest comic book artists of the 20th century- JACK KIRBY. Despite these criticisms, it's still a cool book... One really funny feature is a reprint of a 1960's cop manuel on outlaw bikers--- so THAT'S where they got the idea that I had a shotgun rigged up in my handlebars!

The ONE PERCENTER ENCYCLOPEDIA alludes to being an A-Z authority on outlaw motorcycle clubs ... a one-stop shop for anything/everything pertaining to such clubs ... quite appealing to anyone curious in learning more about the outlaw biker culture. While the book provides a nicely organized listing of outlaw clubs with a decent collection of color photos, it lacks the substantive content I was expecting for a book with "encyclopedia" in its title.Organized alphabetically, THE ONE PERCENTER ENCYCLOPEDIA does provide general information about a large number of bike clubs, including a multitude of lesser-known groups. Most of the entries follow a standard base of details such as date of origin, estimated membership and the territory the clubs preside. As expected, the larger, more recognizable (infamous?) clubs receive more lavish, multiple-paged entries and more photographs, but not much .Considering the subject matter, the listing of clubs is likely incomplete/ever-changing and the availability of elaborate details is understandably scant as secrecy plays a part into the one-percenter culture; I don't fault the author for this. My issue is that the book could have been so much more, well ... "encyclopedic". It would have been nice to see the colors/patch accompanying each club entry. The larger clubs do have known histories (proven by the numerous television documentaries like the "Gangland" series and books written by actual members) that could have provided significantly more information, timelines, leadership, etc. Appendices could have shed light on the various add-on patches and symbolism. All I can say is that Mr. Hayes did a great job in telling what the clubs represent and how they have been misrepresented by the media as being villains when they actually are a brotherhood living by their own rules which by the constitution is everyone's right. Again he has done a great job. I highly recommend this encyclopedia for those wanting this insight.

The title of this book is a bit misleading. When I saw that it is an Encyclopedia, I assumed that there would be information about the various OMC's; history, notable members, significant events about criminal involvement, etc.The book is merely an identification of OMC colors or patches with very little information about the clubs. My bad for making that assumption, but the book would be more fairly referred to as a OMC colors or patch picture book. I wanted the book for more of a historical purpose, something to show the evolution of the clubs, their conflicts, alliances and the dynamics of their criminal involvement. I should have done a little more research before I bought the book.

The book is missing more clubs than it contains. Those that are in it have very little information about them. Useless.

This is the best book I have read in my field in many years because it is both deeply clinical and theoretically sophisticated yet, at the same time, very readable. It was written for an audience already familiar with some of the fundamental concepts in Freud and Lacan. In that sense it's not an introductory text. It's especially delightful to read if you're familiar with Freud because the writers at once return to Freud and Lacan and push them further. Also, the book would be a challenge to read in the absence of this knowledge - not because the writing is cryptic or obscure but because it may confront the reader with pockets of ignorance. Nonetheless, the book is a good starting place for the novice because the writing is so accessible, even as it honors complexity. In short, I highly recommend this book for clinicians and theoreticians at every level.Many books claim to create a dialogue between theory and practice, but at best most just juxtapose the two. A huge strength of this book is that the authors actually link concrete clinical material with theoretical concepts. For example, Bergeron's clinical example on pages 65-67 of a psychoanalytic signifier is probably the clearest example I have ever read of this concept. Add to this clarity the poetics of someone who is also able to refer to the signifier as "the writing of a loss," (p. 61), and you will soon see that this book is a treasure.There are gems embedded in the text amidst larger arguments, but these gems are presented so unpretentiously that they might well go unnoticed. For example, Cantin refers briefly to adolescence as, "that time of life where revolt feeds on the discovery of the arbitrary and which also supports the accusation brought against the other as the one who hinders satisfaction." This incidental comment, so beautifully phrased, appears in the midst of an elegant clarification of the concept of desire.One of the great strengths of this book is the authors' clarity in presenting original ideas. My sense is that their ease in this regard results from two factors. First, the powerful and organizing introduction by Hughes and Malone points to three authors who do not work in isolation but rather in constant interaction with one another and with an entire school of analysts, students, and collaborators. Second, their thinking is grounded in their abundant experience in the clinic. As a result, their theoretical exposition feels embodied and vivid. Further, while the book is full of "understandings" that push my thinking further, it is also implicitly informed by a different kind of knowing: the "savoir" of the individual authors, that is, the particular knowing they have each articulated for themselves in relation to the things we cannot know. In a very immediate sense, this book prepares me to begin framing the question: how can we best succeed in living given the hardest human realities, namely, the inevitability of absence and death?Finally, in remarkably few pages the authors manage to address most of the key concepts in Lacanian psychoanalysis beautifully. For example, the explication in Chapter 9 of Lacan's Graph of Desire is remarkably clear. Similarly, in Chapter 2, Apollon's clarification of the concepts of jouissance, drive, instinct, and the phallus is at once demystifying and brilliant - and in very few pages to boot. With precision and an economy of words, the authors address not only the link between individual theoretical concepts and the clinic but also something of the broader movement of a psychoanalytic treatment from symptom to fantasy. In doing so, the book makes explicit what is at stake in the Lacanian clinic. I could say so much more, but more to the point, I suggest you savor the savoir of the book yourself.

As a clinician who has both struggled to treat psychotic patients and struggled as well with Lacan's dense texts, I found "After Lacan" to occupy a unique place among the many books about Lacan. It is hardly a "quick read" - but given the depth and breadth of the field the authors explore together - it could hardly be expected to be. As the book's introduction reveals, Drs. Apollon, Bergeron and Cantin have long collaborated in interweaving theory and practice - an effort that led to the founding of both a school and a treatment center for psychotics.I found a receptive considered reading of their well crafted explanations to clarify many difficult concepts, such as jouissance, letter-of-the-body and the signifier. The inclusion of clinical vignettes brings these otherwise abstract concepts to life. Their broad approach thus lays out the dynamics of each of Lacan's structures: psychotic, perverse and neurotic.For me, their explication of the conduct of the treatment of the psychotic provided a much appreciated logical framework within which to work. One could say that they have fulfilled Freud's hope that one day an adequate treatment of the psychotic might be found.Charles Turk

The only thing good about the book is that they are in fact accurate, chronologically accurate in that theydo in fact come AFTER Lacan. The rest of the book does, like the other 1 star rating stated, use Lacanian jargon making it appear that they've come to some great understanding, where in fact they do not understand, or at least do not appear to since they cannot seem to explain what understanding they've come to, and delimit this understanding or try to make it greater than it is with fancy words. This may appeal to those that suffer from the ivory tower syndrome that still plagues what could otherwise be the rich field of study of psychoanalysis. I bought it new for about $19, and sold it used for about $17, and was glad to have only lost $2 in my exploration of yet another case of theoretical narcissism.

I bought this book thinking I could see Nova Scotia and PEI in a week. Well now I know that is near impossible. This book highlights important stuff concisely but lacks detail. This book is good if you dont have much time and just want to see the highlights of NS. I would recommend the travel guide from Bradt if you plan on spending a couple days or more in each area as is much more thorough. So in summary: if you just want a quick outline or summary of each province get this book. If you plan on spending lots of time in NS get Bradt.

Perfect if you are there for a short time because they reveal special places you may discover that you may not have time to discover on your own. Putting it on your Kindle you have an easier way of obtaining the information you seek and no worries about filling up your luggage!

Not as comprehensive as the Lonely Planet guide, but I nice supplementary text.

Wish there was more on accommodations and dining. I looked on line for my bookings that included Airbnb, hotel, and motel. I do plan to use the book for excursions and activities.

This was a good addition to our travel planning books (I always use AAA and used the Nova Scotia tourism bureau's book too). This had a lot of interesting information that other books didn't have, and we probably found some things to do that we wouldn't have otherwise. I found it very good for recommending bed and breakfast locations throughout Nova Scotia, especially since we were traveling with children.

It was okay, but I expected a little more for some reason based on the description of the author.

Awesome. Amazing. Astounding. The book was so good I read it all in one day. Took general notes of the information. But plan to go back and re-read and re-read and re-read to become a disciplinary in this part of my life. Such real talk. Such real events. I felt as if I was having a conversation with the author. And she already knew exactly where I was and had already been on this path. This has been a personal struggle of mine for well over 10 years. My start date is next week to begin my journey. I pray for my future. But I know if I follow these guidelines I surely will be at the beginning of my lifestyle change. This is not a fad diet. And get skinny quick scheme. This is for those who want to interact and be honest with there selves. Be humble before the Lord and admit that they have an â€œaddictionâ€ thank you for this book Susan. You are the first book that actually hit me at a spot that I can understand and interpret. It gives the whys and howâ€™s. I am anxious to get started but will first spend a week in prayer to reconnect my relationship with the Lord. Who will provide me the strength on my journey. Thank you thank you thank you for this book I hope to update my review in 3 months to give an update on how my journey is progressing. One day at a tome. I step at a time. Iâ€™m thankful already for what is in store for me ahead. Something feels different in me when I read this book. Letting me know that something differ t had been sparked within me. Just completed chapter 1. Lots of useful information and plan to finish the book... but it is super preachy, and I find that incredibly distracting. We will see if I'm able to finish it.

Motivating, convincing and helpful. Wish I was equipped with this information a long time ago. Looking forward to getting healthier and increasing energy through improved eating habits. I had no idea some of our food has such negative consequences due to genetic modification and processing.

This book provides a timely antidote to the epidemic of obesity in society. It is written from a Christian worldview think this is very helpful as many Christians deal with food addiction. The book is well referenced guide to healthier eating with a step by step guide and numerous link to additional help materials. There were some interesting facts in the book including an explanation of how gluten levels have increased in wheat. I would have like to see additional justification for some of the books viewpoints for example not eating genetically modified feed. Overall I found the book to be extremely though provoking, the use of language highly evocative and I enjoyed the personal anecdotes provided by the author. I hope this book will be widely read and be more tool to reduce societyâ€™s abuse of sugar and junk food calories.

As I work through putting the author's "7 Steps" into practice, I refer to this wonderful resource quite often. I knew I was making great strides toward better health when I began daydreaming about how I would prepare zucchini for dinner instead of searching for my stash of Peanut M&Ms! Highly recommend!!

A thoughtful teacher couple gave this to our 10 year old granddaughter when her Mother suddenly died. She read it in secret several times, each time she seemed to feel 'better' because it reassured her grieving is ok. Everyone grieves differently. There's no wrong or right way to grieve. How one expresses, experiences & feels grief is exactly right. I have since sent one to another child who had 3 family members she was very close to, die in just a few months. The parents were bereft also & the book gave them a common ground which they could use to express their grief with the child.

I lost my parents 4 years ago, 8 mos. apart and am still having a hard, hard time and was absolutely devastated and lost.I'm still grieving, especially for my Dad, who was my best friend and my rock. My Mom was my role model as a School Teacher and a very vibrant lady stolen away by Alzheimers . I was having a particularly difficult time one night, called someone who could hear about the situation and be unbiased and supportive. She told me about this book and told me a little about it. I bought it and it's a Godsend.

Got this book for my Mom after my Gram passed away and she said out of all the grief books she bought and was given this one was the most comforting. It has been passed throughout her siblings and their families and multiple copies have been purchased for others. To be honest, I was afraid it would be a little too jeuvenile for adults, but I think it really brings comfort to anyone who reads it. The illustrations are lovely, and some of my younger cousins had fun finding the puppy in each picture. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.

It looks like a kids' book but it's not and should be read by everyone because it's a perfect guide to understanding someone who is undergoing grief. So many insights into what the grieving person may be feeling and how to respond. Incredibly valuable because all of us will, sooner or later, know someone who is very sad from a loss and this will be our guide to be able to offer some help.

I love this book and ordered two to have on hand. I didn't open the package for over a month and now I've discovered that one book has one third of the pages not attached in the binding. I'm past the return date. So sad! It just didn't occur to me to check the quality.

This was a really good book for explaining how someone deals with loss or hardships. Even as an adult it gave me perspective. For example, when I see people grieving in different ways ill say to my self, that just them making their tear soup. I like the book and it was a good read even as an adult.

I collect books that help kids cope with difficult situations (I have a high-functioning child on the spectrum, so it's extra critical for us to have a full repertoire that can help with difficult topics), and this is the best one I've seen about grief (also super useful for coping with deaths). I love that it addresses all the various stages of grief, courtesy of the hospice worker who authored the book and has seen many, many, many people go through this process. It is spot on and so helpful when you're in a difficult place.RELIGION - This book does mention God and church, but in a generic way so it's appropriate for people in a wide range of religions. For the non-religious it's soft enough that I still wouldn't hesitate to use the book anyway.NOTE TO PARENTS - I wouldn't hesitate to use this book with most kids *but* if you have a child who can read independently, be aware that one page shows a shelf with 10 or so books in the background, and the books each have a title of a different trauma. This won't be an issue for 99% of people who use this book, but if your kid is likely to read those titles and ask what those words mean, you'll want to glance through the book in advance and decide whether you'll need to distract your child when you get to that page so they don't jump into that rabbit holeADULTS - Some people have said this book is simplistic, and it absolutely is. It's not going to work for someone who's wanting a 300-page self-help novel on overcoming the grieving process **but** when you're freshly in the throes of grief and can barely function, a book this simple is about the right level of complexity emotionally--meeting you right where you're at in a way that doesn't require almost any commitment at all from you. If you're wanting more, there are a few pages in the back listing concrete suggestions for specific scenarios, but it's sort of a Cliffs Notes version when you don't have the heart for something longer

I recently had a tragic loss in my family. I was looking for a book to help make sense of things and make it easier to handle myself and to describe to my son. Tear soup was a fabulously written book! It did exactly that, told the story in its own way of grief and how people handle it differently in the form of tear soup. It's something you can go back to over and over again. Quality book, nice hard cover and illustration. Highly recommend for anyone trying to cope with a tough time.

This should not be out of print. Maggie Letvin was always so thoughtful and really understood what it was like to be in pain and the frustrations of limited movement -- on her TV show and in her exercise books.I'm very glad to be able to get a copy of this book and have it in my own hands. It really ought to be reprinted for its common-sense suggestions for LIVING with an injury until you can repair it. Maggie acknowledges that although we can go to physical therapy and help heal an injury, sometimes we still have to cope with the results of having been injured.Thanks Maggie, if you are still out there! Your gentle advice and common sense helped. :)

Over the years, I've purchased several copies of this book (and given them away). Good, common-sense things anyone with lower back pain can use. Effective, quick, simple, and clear instructions.

I already had her other book. I have tried her advice on how to sleep at night with success. Love her stretching exercises -- works as well or better than pain meds and a lot faster as well!! Bought a 2d copy for a friend of mine as well.

I was facing a future of constant back pain when a friend of mine recommended I find, read and put into practice the principles of Maggie Lettvin. Maggie's book takes you step by step through defining the cause of your back pain and some gentle easy exercises to greatly reduce or even elimanate it. Then she adds several methods of strenthening your core muscles, improving your posture and ways of lifting and bending to prevent the pain from coming back. Simple line drawings by Ruth McCambridge illustrate the right and the wrong ways of doing things with a touch of whimsy. Taking Maggie's advice seriously and practicing the exercises as part of your everyday life will help you learn how to work with your body to heal it's self and stay healthy. Her motto should be "If it hurts you're not doing it right!" or "No pain is the gain!". I have been helped by this book, highly recommend it and have alredy passed a copy on to some friends.

For the first time I gained some control over reducing my back pain.
