From Publishers Weekly

Prelutsky introduces this volume of humorous poems with a verse of his own: "If you have got a funnybone, / and I've no doubt you do, / then this completely silly book / is sure to tickle you." The poems are silly, full of high jinksstet spelling per Web. and clever nonsense. Although the author and title indexes at the end of the book are useful, a table of contents would have clarified the book's loose organization. A verse about Bella's new umbrella is followed by one about ghouls' ghoul-oshes. Poems about nuts, noodles and bananas fill one double-page spread while verses about rattlesnake meat, jellyfish stew and eating eels occupy another. Priceman's ( Friend or Frog ; Rachel Fister's Blister ) slapdash watercolor illustrations are full of energy and high spirits, perfectly suited to this eclectic collection that includes work by such favorites as Nash, Lobel, Kennedy, Kuskin, Yolen and Raskin. Ages 7-12. Copyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.

From School Library Journal

Grade 1-5-- Familiar funny folks who know how to tickle children's funnybones with silly rhymes are well represented in this high-spirited collection. Prelutsky, who gathered the verses, is here, as are Silverstein, Nash, Viorst, Ciardi, and an array of others, including songster Barry Polisar. Priceman's pen-and-ink and watercolor illustrations are whimsical, multiethnic, and humorous, adding significantly to the collection's appeal. Title and author indexes are helpful additions. Loosely arranged by subjects, the short poems take a kid's-eye view of everything from monsters and table manners (or the lack of) to food and parents. A happy book for all collections. --Lee Bock, Brown County Public Libraries, Green Bay, WICopyright 1991 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Who doesn't love Jack Prelutsky! Just another excellent collection of humorous school poems by this author. My students and I love this book. As much as I adore this author, I have never quite enjoyed the illustrations that accompany his books. This one is no exception. I do not like the cover as it is odd, somewhat spookie, and unappealing. The poems are always outstanding. The book contains some of my favorites poems.

My eight year old loves this poetry and we read a few poems from it at least once a day!

Funny, silly, easy read.

Great condition and great book to share with my class!

I got this book for Christmas as a kid back in the early '90s. To this day, I still remember Granmaw Fanshaw in the cement machine and Jake, the son of John Lothario/Went to swim in Lake Ontario. I read it over and over ad nauseum. All the poems are well chosen and perfect for a kid's weird sense of humor.

I guess I'd better start by saying I really did like this book and my reservations are largely based on relevance to my kids' in their culture. The poems are very funny, but there are a lot of overtones that are very US American in the selection and that meant that my children (Kiwi kids) didn't enjoy this book as much as some other collections we have. Having said that I don't for a moment regret buying it or think that it contains inappropriate material. It is a collection we will continue to enjoy over the years to come, but I do prefer some of Jack Prelutsky's other poetry selections such as the "20th Century Children's Poetry Treasury" or "The Random House Book of Poetry for Children" which also contain some hilarious poems in their mix.

The only thing that may rival a book of poems by the master of children's poetry, Jack Prelutsky, is a collection of humorous poems selected by Jack Prelutsky. Not to give too much away, how can anyone resist a 2-page poem about collecting pancakes, or a limerick to do with dreaming about eating a shoe that turns out to be perfectly true? Not I. Without a doubt, this is a great collection of poems.

This is a fun book with grandchildren. I have also read bits and pieces of this book with a group of adults who enjoyed it as much as I did. It's wonderful for reading and laughing out loud!!
