This book was quite entertaining and very easy to read. A father is charged with murder when his daughter is found dead in her bedroom. A private investigator who had been working for the man decides not to abandon him despite his lack of funds and tries to prove his innocence. Despite a police detective who seems determined to convict his client the private investigator continues his pursuit of the truth. The book is definitely worth your time and money.
This guy has no idea of police procedure or courtroom procedure. The book is all written in very short, simple sentences. Not a bad thing, but overdone to where it reads like Dick and Jane. He continually uses adjectives when adverbs are needed, so his characters sound kind of stupid.Oh, wait a minute: his characters ARE stupid. A stereotype of a dumb cop. A stereotype of a private eye. Get the picture?
First time reading anything from this author- I enjoyed the story. It wasn't filled with descriptive gory scenes or language that would offend. Kept my interest and looked forward to returning to the next chance I had to continue reading the mystery. Hoping I found an author I can count on to entertain me.
Another good one by Mr. Fincham! I recently "discovered" his work and love his books! This book certainly did not disappoint. It kept my interest from page to page. The policeman was a little annoying since he had his mind made up too soon and missed some pretty good clues. I definitely recommend this book and am looking forward to the next one!
Having started life out as as Deputy Sheriff, Lee squandered his career, his marriage and maybe even fatherhood. Paul Gardener contracted Lee to obtain evidence against his wife for cheating on him. On the same night Lee had staked out Paul's house, he saw Sharon sneak out of the house after midnight. Lee followed her and saw her enter an apartment building. He had taken pictures of her going in and a couple of hours later coming out with her lover. In the morning, Sharon went to wake up her daughter only to find her dead. She went to find Paul in the guesthouse after calling 911. Paul was sleeping very soundly and Sharon and an officer had a difficult time waking him up. When Sharon told him that Kyla was dead, he ran to the house to see his daughter. The police noticed blood on his shirt and took him to the station. They believed he had killed his daughter. While in custody, Lee brought him the pictures he took of Sharon who shared them with his lawyer. Since the police only had eyes for Paul, Lee decided to investigate the case himself. Maybe he could with back some self-esteem and his humanity.
Riveting story on the tragedy of losing a child. The reader is given the brutal reality of parents who find their adult daughter murdered. When one parent is suspected and charged with the crime, it moves the plot into a mystery of whodunnit. The peculiar dynamics of the other family members and their flawed characters add to the drama. Enter the discovery of another crime—with another parent losing a son, and the race to discover the truth accelerates. The theme is murder, but the relationship of parent(s) with their children is the underlying theme. Good read.
This is not a bad book but it is far from a very good book. I am surprised that the author has so much writing experience, because some of the writing is pretty amateurish. Interesting police procedure if somewhat inaccurate. Research maybe done reading mysteries or watching TV? No character development. Decent plot. Readers guess guilty parties fairly early. The Who not the why or how.
I would actually give this book a 2.5 stars. I am very disappointed in the way this book is written. The author writes as if he is writing for 5th graders. And some of the repetitive sentence structures were annoying. “He then did this.†She then did that.†Just write “Then he did whatever.†Or try the word NEXT! Also, it’s OK to use contractions. People don’t talk like... “I did not go here.†“I thought to myself, ‘I should not do this.’â€And, OMG, the Callaway character is just a mess. He wants to do good but doesn’t but knows he should but can’t. Terribly portrayed and miserable to read about.And then the chapters alternate between Callaway and the 2 primary detectives in a way that is jumpy and difficult to follow.I got so frustrated with the poor writing style I had difficulty enjoying the story!
