There's a lot of great tips and planning aspects in this book, and there are many pages to fill in for venues, caterers, dresses, coordinators and so on. There are also (almost) enough pages for the guest list. I LOVE that it has a priority box, so if you're trying to narrow down your guest list this is very helpful.So why only four stars?Well to start it comes in a three ring binder, which is great for adding or subtracting pages from the different tabbed chapters, but the ring spine broke off after two days of using it, so now it just slides around everywhere.I also felt that there were many things that were excessive, which for some soon-to-be marrieds would be great but for me it was a bit overwhelming and wasteful. I don't need 10 fields for caterers. but if you do then this is great.The price was reasonable so even though it requires transferring everything onto the computer there's still fun activities to do as a couple.But honestly after getting it and comparing it to some of the wedding sites I feel that it is a bit dated.
The Positives: This wedding planner is extremely valuable for the beginning of your wedding planning, where you are selecting the location, all your vendors, the dresses, the officiant, etc. It is the only planner I found that contains detailed lists of all the questions you should ask the businesses you are considering working with, and a list of what your contracts must contain to protect you.The Negatives: What this does not contain is a month-by-month checklist of what should be done, when. Nor does it contain samples of the "Day Of" Schedules that you will want to create to make sure everyone knows what should happen when. The huge size of this binder means you may want to remove the pages from the applicable section and place them in a folder to take to your meetings with those potential vendors.The Bottom Line: I used this in the first half of wedding planning until the location, vendors and the dress had been selected. And then I switched to using The Wedding Book by Mindy Weiss, primarily for that book's detailed Planning Time Lines (Checklists) and Wedding Schedule examples.
I purchased this many years ago when I got married and found it not only to be an excellent resource, but also a great keepsake.Now as my girlfriend is getting married, I purchased this for her as an engagement present. She too, has agreed that this is an invaluable resource, has an excellent layout and overall will be something to cherish for years to come, as she scribbles in her plans for her wedding.
I bought this planner - binder style - a few years ago for my niece who was getting married. She liked it and said it was very useful. Now I am buying this for the second time for her sister who just announced her engagement. Before ordering it again, I asked my older niece if she had found it helpful. She not only recommended it but also said that her sister had seen it and had loved it. That made my purchase of a no-brainer.
This is essentially the same resource as the smaller brides book of lists. However it does include additional resources that the smaller book does not. I recommend one of each. Both books are excellent and important tools for organization. Plus this book, the Brides essential wedding planner also has several things in it that make it a sort of scrapbook journey of the road to your wedding. In this mother of the brides opinion, both are worth every penny. One for the bride, one for the mother of the bride, or maybe the maid of honor. Whoever you,the bride, choose to be your 2nd in command you will both appreciate these excellent resources to keep each other on the same page. These resources and communication are essential keys to planning a successful wedding.
I have had a total of four wedding planners since I started planning my wedding. One did not have everything necessary to fully plan out a wedding. One was very cheaply made. One was downloaded from the internet. And the last one was this one! Not only does it have every checklist and every worksheet you need to plan a very awesome wedding, but it is constructed well. I love how sturdy it is! Another thing I love is that I can add things such as pictures and contracts because it's binder style. It's definitely work the price!
Its very huge which would have been awesome because it comes with a wealth of information, but it came broken. The three ring binding was broken and the whole thing keeps falling out. It was a gift so I was so embarrassed when I gave it to the bride to be and the whole thing fell to the floor as she held the outter casing. I have a lot of tools for scrap-booking and even my soldering gun couldnt fix it. ): Very embarrassing.
Probably wouldn't purchase again. Just has spreadsheets to fill in as you get information. Also has questions to ask vendors/photographers/ etc, which could be helpful, but everything on the internet was the same thing. I could make the spreadsheets for free.
